Trish Like the light projection on Washington monument:

Or the Liberty Lights - a light show at the Statue of Liberty, a gift from France:

But there were also fantastic drone shows:

The NYC Ball Drop (there was one for evey US time zone):

A fleet of historic ships, like Germany's Gorch Fock, assembled in the Hudson with salutes:

And, of course, there were stunning (sometimes even recordbreaking) fireworks everywhere:

Then there were all the wonderful fly-bys and fly-overs.

Most of these can be watched in full on YouTube so they can be enjoyed no matter where in the world you are.

Thank you.

Trish You're absolutely welcome.

Justine I don’t understand when this happened? It’s only the morning of July 4 today? I assume there is stuff going on all week in DC although I’m on the West Coast so here it is tonight only stuff is happening.

Trish Yep, some were celebrations into midnight when the date changed. Like the Ball Drop in NYC (actually, that happened 7 times as I mentioned in my text above, once for every of the 7 US time zones). The lightshow at Lady Liberty started at 10pm last night. And then there is more this morning of course (I'm watching livestreams right now).

Trish And here are yet more impressions, first fo all from the Sail 4th (the gathering of ships in the Hudson), happening right now:

Trish More fly-overs:

I'm pretty sure this last one will go into the history books or at least win some award.

Trish Texas drone show (more and better pictures, some of the ones above were already from this one):

The rocket and planets one was my personal favorite from this particular drone show. The pictures really don't do it justice so try and find a video of it in order to be able to enjoy it more.

Trish Finally, this is what I made today:

Cheeseburger Wellington (but with actual bread rather than puff pastry) with Rösti fries (Rösti = crispy potato side dish from Switzerland) and greek yoghurt frozen with forest berries.

OK, I also had a couple of Oreos because I splurged but it's America's birthday and was an American sweet so that counts, right? ;P

It's past 8pm here now so it's time for an honored tradition: watching Independence Day with Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith. Personally, I think the movie is still one of the best scifi movies ever and - perfect for today - it nicely teaches about duty, sacrifice, and "fireworks". BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I hope y'all have a blast today and enjoy some nice festivities!
🇺🇸🥳 HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY! 🇺🇸🥳

Jen These are some great pics Trish! Unfortunately, the heat wave we're having caused some cancelled plans but there's still been some great shows!

Yeah, I heard / saw. Too bad. But it's better to have an interruption than to have people in distress from it. Another good thing about this year's celebration not only having been on one day but several.

Trish A few more pictures of the Hudson harbor display:

Unfortunately, most pictures of the fireworks don't do them nearly enough justice so I encourage you to seek out the awesome videos. Nevertheless, here are a few of my favorite pictures:

And one VERY cool display was people taking their pick-up trucks and forming the USA in the desert:

I love all the small and not-so-small ways people celebrated! :D
