anyway other than THAT this is really interesting. there are lots of characters and the perspective switches a lot and chapters are short just how i like them. the slow build as they find evidence; things getting more complicated the more they learn so it feels like the more you know the less you really know. still don’t know the murderer or the motive. but both victims had an affinity for moths & catching them :o

it’s a bit slow rn but not slow enough for it not to be interesting. still waiting on how moths are involved in the murders… smthng about climate change? the characters are v realistic & dynamic which i <3, its mostly abt vera trying to find the relationships between all these people to get the killer… it might be some crime guy called jason but that’s too obvious i hope it’s one of the retired old ppl !!

omg also i read a part where another detective, holly (theres vera, the lead, then holly and joe assisting her) — who said before she doesnt want to turn into vera, married to the job or wtv — was talking w a victim’s mother and they were drinking tea and holly was thinking the teacups are so small and dainty, then “vera couldn’t fit her fat fingers in to hold the handle” WHAT?? SO RANDOM?? WHY???? LIKE?

ok i dont have my book w me rn but i read something so absurd today. i’m over halfway thru now & i’m still annoyed abt how the weight of the lead detective, vera, is discussed. its ridiculous. vera was quickly pacing bc she was excited since theyd just found where one of the murders happened, and then: “if she hadnt been so heavy, joe would have said she was dancing.” HUH? AS IF FAT PEOPLE CANT DANCE???

also the lead detective is overweight and they like will not stop mentioning her fatness. idk what the purpose of that is bc if there is no purpose or resolution surrounding it then i’m like why keep bringing it up. it’s not always negative, but it IS always negative when a character is talking/thinking abt her. “she should lose weight” and stuff. and ig thats real life but idk it’s treated like a side plot

first moth mention was page 67, then on 68 we get the reveal that one of the two men who was murdered in this little valley in europe w nothing but some far-apart houses and a pub was starting a nature photography career and he has a moth catcher in his backyard. hes also mentally ill and has been to the hospital for it a few times. the detectives are on the case… very mysterious deaths… i’m liking this so far
