Again and again, my grandchildren expand my horizons. I never imagined looking forward to reading a graphic novel. Especially a graphic *fantasy* novel. But it's the first thing my grandson grabs during our reading time. Sometimes we pause and look at the pictures before I read the squares. This book is building bonds between us.

I'm reading this aloud to my five-year-old grandson. Graphic novels are not my gig, but Callahan gravitates toward it each time. And there's nothing like a beloved boy snuggling up to your side and giggling while you read together.
