I hate this book so much

I started reading this because the Joyce subreddit was doing a read-along and I thought it would be the only way I'd have a chance of getting through it. But they are just pissing about frankly and are still in the first 12 pages or thereabouts, not sure why - maybe they are translating from Swahili or something. Anyway, I'm pressing on.
