Elodie bakes all different types of bread in hopes Violet will eat one when she goes over- she never does, just breaks the bread into tiny pieces, apologizes for not eating it. One day Violet seems off- Elodie finds the vials she saw the ambassador put in her drink, sneaks some into a wineglass, gives it to Violet.
Elodie likes the idea of her & the ambassador keeping Violet in there, drugged up & isolated…
The ambassador starts coming to the bakery to visit Elodie…things get freaky- he tells her to touch herself while he stands there & watches. Now she’s got a fatter crush on him.
Elodie crushes up a wine glass very finely, to a dust.. then sprinkles it with sugar over apple slices.. brings it to Violet & watches her eat it.
In church, the butchers father runs repeatedly into one of the windows during the middle of service until he smashes through it…
The ambassador & elodie plan to meet at a hotel one night but he stands her up, she waits hours drinking wine alone until she decides to just go over to their house & hang with Violet.
Violet reveals they set her up, violets always been bored in this town so when she realized elodie wanted her husband she decided to fuck w her.
Violet tears her a new one- calls her out for being the creepy neighbor always inviting herself over, stealing shit from voilet, wanting to be her & have her life.
Then she reveals while elodie has been so swept up in obsessing over Violet, her own husband has been cheating on her w the grocers wife, she’s pregnant & they plan on running away together!!
Elodie is a crying mess, makes her way over to the bakery but her husband isn’t there…goes back home to find him naked in bed, sweating & begging for her help.
Elodie starts hallucinating, her husband says he’s been sick like this since breakfast…
Meanwhile Violet tell the ambassador, when he gets home, she’ll happily take her medicine this time..they go on a stroll through the town - watching everyone loose their mind.
Elodie realizes her husband must have used the vile he got from the ambassador in his bread today.
The whole town is loosing their mind w hallucinations- everyone killing themselves or killing other people. The people who didn’t eat the bread just watching in shock, hiding from the crazy ppl or being killed by them. Police from nearby town come over, rounding up people in nets.
The ambassador & Violet get a kick out of things at first, the ambassador wanted to see the results of his experiment.
Eventually they get scarred, run into a church to hide. The towns people find them & drag Violet out to a lake, the women have always envied her & everyone blames them- saying life was better before they showed up- drown Violet in the lake.
Elodie runs out of her house, runs through town hallucinating before she’s captured in a net.
Elodie is the only survivor, there’s no record of the Ambassador being there & police don’t look too into it so he gets away w everything- him & Violet were never even married.
The police say the Baker made an innocent mistake, chalk it up to a bad batch of flour. Newspapers put out stories that the Baker & Violet were having an affair & poisoned everyone but w no evidence & everyone dead- no one left to stand trial.
Elodie ponders if Violet was in on it, maybe drugged & forces to go along w things- what her role in everything was.

Elodie has a very dull marriage, they met in a boring way, have a boring relationship. Not much passion. She gets turned on by the idea of her husband & Violet sleeping together- just the idea of her husband actually desiring someone excites her.
She dyes her light hair dark like Violet’s. She’s fascinated & drawn to her while equally envious & wants to be her.
One day Violet tells Elodie she wants to show her something, brings her to a field w 8 dead horses- says she wanted to make sure it was real. They decide not to tell anyone abt it.
The next day everyone in town is talking abt the horses. Stories of the horses being sliced open & drained of blood, hooves cut off start to circulate.
As the summer goes on, Violet & Elodie hang out a lot more, get closer. The local woman all talk shit on Violet, they thinks she’s stuck up & boujee.
Elodie meets a man in a movie theater one day, gives him her number, they hook up a few days later. She begins cheating on her husband a lot more regularly, going into bars, flirting with men, getting a room to hook up in- it’s one of the only things that make her feel desired & not bored w life. She has completely given up on romance w her husband who doesn’t seem to have any interest in her.
The towns Midsummer Festival rolls around, everyone gathers to enjoy the festivities.
The children play a game where they all line up & each take turns jumping over a small bonfire. This year one of the little boys runs straight past the small fire & right into the heart of a bigger one…
One day while Elodie is tidying up, she finds a vile full of liquid in her husband’s apron pocket. He says it’s an additive the Ambassador got for him, it’s from America & not legal where they live yet but could potentially help him make the world’s best bread- his dream.
Elodie is happy for him, encourages him to use it, says it could change their lives & bring great fortune.
She takes off her top & attempts to go down on him…he tells her to turn around & then buttons her clothes back up for her! Saying something’s gotten into her recently. -I’d cry
One day when Elodie is over at Violets place, the Ambassador comes home, Elodie spy’s on them when they go downstairs- sees the ambassador take a vile & drips liquid into a glass of water, makes Violet drink it, saying it’s good for her…he tells Violet to send Elodie home after that.
