Wow a move I did not see coming from a Trollope character! I hope this person can stick with it

It occurs to me how similar Sir Thomas and Ralph are. They vacillate.

She was innocent, pure, unknowing in the ways of vice, simple in her tastes, conscientious in her duties, and yet she was a rake at heart,—till at last sorrow and disappointment taught her that it is not enough that a man should lie loose upon the grass with graceful negligence and call for soda-water…Gregory…was sombre, and was a parson;—but, oh, what a thing it is that a man should be true at heart!

Echoes of Persuasion on page 307! Fascinating. I don’t remember Trollope being so specific about unrequited love before.
