I swear to God, Claire is not NOT good enough to join this damn tournament. She literally almost got choked out by a damn thief! And very easily at that.

Claire is still so stupid, and honestly Farron is the only one that has a brain half the time. He's by far my favorite, and can do way better than Claire. She's not interesting at all, and the plot only seems to move forward with her interactions with the others.

You know, there's a lot that already bothers me about this book, but what really gets me is the constant "A girl could", "a girl needs", "a girl" - this, "a girl"- that.

This is NOT helping me view Claire as anything older than 12.

And I'm noticing a pattern of, when Claire is angry with Farron (which is a lot) he's ALWAYS just referred to as "the elf". It's never "Farron turned away", it's "The elf turned away."

I just want to cry at this point.

Claire has made another empty resolution to better herself by being more ladylike, and less of a child; she's failed miserably thus far, and has actually regressed into acting like a petulant toddler.

I'm at the point where she's just had a panic attack, and then literally one page later is perfectly fine! Totally shaken off everything, as if it never even happened.

Do I just DNF?

Also, if she's a guest of the palace and being offered the royal dressing services, why tf did they just kick her out after finishing her hair?

"... nearly the whole ceiling and below it hung the *new* biggest chandelier she had ever seen." Gurl how tf do you know it's new??? Or is this a second and now *the* biggest she'd seen? Why are we focusing on this? Also, use commas.

Honestly I thought I was being harsh in my criticism when talking about this book to a friend (literally threw my kindle down to call her), but after reading a few other reviews I found that my criticisms were justified.

Claire is utterly ridiculous. I still don't know how old she is, but she acts like she's fucking 12. She whines and cries, has bouts of strong resolve, and then is back to crying. I can't with her.

Overnight, I considered what I read so far, as little as it is, and I've come upon the realization thst so far the story feels like the author was in a rush to get to the meat of the story. I am 4 chapters into this book now, and we've no idea what's going on as both the reader and the main character. But it feels extra like thst for the reader because things are moving extremely fast.

The pacing is already a bit of an issue. So far, I know that the main character is named Claire, and her hair is a fiery red. The story starts by jumping right into the action after a brief mention of hope her mom is constantly getting proposed to, and... Honestly I wish it took more time to explore and introduce Claire more. Imo.
