The introduction plus chaps 1 & 2 discusses the history of the poem written in approx 2750 BCE and the discovery of fragments of the tablets on which it was inscribed in the 1850's. He highlights the painstaking process of finding more fragments and trying to put them together like a puzzle, along with the various translations. The book then is organized with next 12 chapters covering each of the 12 tablets.
