Now finished the title story ‘The Dark Eidolon’. Not my favourite of the collection, but still really enjoyable

It’s taken me 10 years (!) but I’ve finally read all of the short stories in this collection. Now moving into the Prose Poems before the Poetry section. I have to say the short stories covering the previous 60 pages weren’t that great and won’t be remembered by me.
It’s interesting to look at how 10 years ago, and then 3 years ago, I was in awe of the prose. Today, I’m not as a a fan as back then.

Just finished ‘Genius Loci’. Another really enjoyable story that definitely fits the description of weird fiction horror. Next up is the title story, The Dark Eidolon.

The Maze of the Enchanter picked up very quickly and turned out to be a strong story in the end! I find that after a break from CAS, it takes a while to get used to his prose again when you pick up the next story. So I’ll carry on with the next one straight away to try and keep some momentum.

Started ‘The Maze of the Enchanter’, not overly enthralled by how it’s started, but I’ll persevere nonetheless.

The Double Shadow - 3.5*/5 - This is the first time I’ve picked up this collection in quite a few years, and how I’ve missed it. As always, CAS’s prose is unlike anyone else I’ve read. Whilst these are only short stories, they need time and patience to make sure you pick up every word, as only then can you appreciate how good these stories are. This one was no different!

Just read the story, Ubbo-Sathla. Probably the most 'weird' story of the collection so far. Brilliant writing as normal, and quite deep for an 8 page story. CAS managed to fit quite a bit into a short amount of writing there. I want a copy of The Book of Eibon!
