The Times apparently thought the book to be "Sexy, funny, blisteringly intelligent", but I fear my impression so far is more like "Vulgar, faintly amusing at times, and tyring", the latter because the story doesn't seem to move anywhere, it's as if the author wants to force us to sympathize with the hero by making us feel world weary ennui from tying to get through his writing.
