Past-
We’re also following Tom, 17, in highschool, has had a huge crush on a girl named Daisy since he was 4. Daisy likes him too- only problem is Tom wants to kill her 🤗 He wants to be a surgeon when he gets older so he can cut people open…fantasizes abt killing his crush. Daisy’s dad is also the chief of police.
Tom’s dad is a drunk who hits his mom, his mom defends the dad & puts up with it, Tom fantasizes abt killing him too, hates him a lot.
Eventually Tom & Daisy start dating.

Present- Sydney is walking home w her friend Bonnie the day after her horrible date, has to pass the building she told creepy Kevin she lives in- sees him sitting there waiting for her! They have to threaten calling the police to get him to go away.

Bonnie lives in the same apartment complex as Sydney, asks if she can come over the next day while the super fixes her toilet. When Sydney goes there the next day Bonnie doesn’t answer. The super, Randy, unlocks Bonnie’s door & fixes the toilet while Sydney tries calling her..finds her phone inside..checks her bedroom & finds Bonnie mutilated in there, blood everywhere..
When police show up, her ex boyfriend, Jake, turns out to be the detective on the case. They lived together for a year but broke up cause he was too wrapped up in his job, they barely saw each other.
This is the first time they’re seeing each other since the breakup but he assures her he’ll find who did this, she tells him abt Kevin.

That night Jake gives Sydney an update on the case- they’ve matched the fingerprints found at the crime scene to fingers prints at another crime scene, a very similar one. Both victims had a big chunk of hair cut in the same spot, he thinks the killer keeps souvenirs, may be a serial killer. The fingerprints are unidentified.

Past-
A girl named Brandi went missing a while ago, Tom used to tutor her…After being missing for awhile her body is found in the woods & police start investigating it as a homicide.
Daisys dad isn’t suspicious of Tom at all, he thinks he’s a good kid & is glad Daisy is dating him, asks Tom to walk her home after school to make sure she’s safe.
Daisy’s best friend, Alison, has always hated Tom, found it sus that he tutored Brandi. Now that Brandi’s body has been found, she’s even colder to Tom.

Present-
2 months pass since the funeral, the killer still not found. Sydney is back on the dating apps, out one night w a guy when she gets a nosebleed, the guy is squeamish & faints. Mystery man also happens to be at the same place, comes over to help after her date faints. After the guy leaves, mystery man asks her if she wants to grab dinner, she’s so happy cause she’s wanted to date him since she met him- turns out it’s Tom! Girl runnn

Past- Alison & Tom are lab partners, after class one day Alison pulls him aside & tells him to stay away from Daisy.
Brandi had a secret boyfriend she told a few friends abt, was supposed to meet up w him the night she went missing, never told anyone who it was.
Alison tells Tom she saw him kissing Brandi, that she thinks he’s the one who killed her, that if he doesn’t stay away from Daisy she’ll snitch to police (girl just go snitch).
Tom doesn’t think police will believe her considering how much the chief loves him, but also doesn’t wanna risk it, thinks he covered his tracks well enough but there’s a chance he could still get caught.
He doesn’t dump her, instead he tells her he loves her next time he sees her lol.

Present-
Tom is a medical examiner now, does autopsies..! Over dinner w Sydney he admits he wanted to get her number the first time they met but he didn’t wanna seem like a creep asking after she had been attacked. Mentions that he was also at the tail end of a relationship- girl he’s the doctor who killed Bonnie- is it not obvious? (I was right lol)

Past-
Tom’s mom leaves town to deal with some family stuff, his dad comes home that night drunk, makes nasty comments abt Daisy, tells Tom abt how he’s gonna sneak in her window at night & do things to her…so creepy. He really triggers Tom tho…he stabs his dad in the stomach..the dad tries crawling to a phone but Tom cuts his throat before he can reach it…

Present-
Abt 2 months pass & the killer still isn’t found, they do find another match in police database from a case 3 years back, same style murder, same unidentified DNA found.
Kevin has been stalking Sydney, she sees him around a bunch but doesn’t report him to police, just complains abt it to her friend Gretchen.

Past-
After killing his dad, Tom calls his best friend, Slug, over to help him. Slug is suprisingly super chill abt the whole thing, oddly knows exactly what to do, doesn’t seem phased by it at all.
They roll the dad up in the carpet & put him into Slug’s parents car…then Tom realizes Alison is outside walking her dog.
Tom goes over to talk to her, he doesn’t think she saw what they were doing but Slug does, says she’s a big loose end…
Slug suggests they bury the body so no one finds it, says he already has shovels in the car, chooses a hiking trail to bury him. They plan on saying the dad never came home & is prob out on a bender, which isn’t unusual for him.


Present-
Sydney brings Tom over to her place for drinks, he’s thrown off when he realizes where she lives, asks if she knows anyone in the building…she still hasn’t caught on that he’s the dude Bonnie was dating 🙄 she’s so stupid

Tom’s is super uncomfortable inside her apartment, makes a bullshit excuse to leave. Sydney is cutting something in the kitchen, gets all flustered when he says he’s leaving & tries convincing him to stay, cuts herself w the knife.
Tom’s demeanor switches as soon as he sees the blood…he cleans her up & then he’s not anxious anymore..he kisses her & is turned on now, wants to go to the bedroom!
So weird & so many red flags! she’s dumb for not piecing this together.

After sex, Daisy gets brought up in convo lol Tom says she’s the only girl he ever loved…that it ended back in highschool when she died!

Past-
The day after killing his dad, Tom goes into school to find out Alison is missing now..!
Slug isn’t fazed by it when Tom confronts him, tells Tom that their little problem is fixed now…
Police chief interviews students again, he’s sus of Tom this time tho. Other students told him abt how Alison hated him & was trying to convince Daisy to dump him, Tom keeps talking abt Alison in the past tense during the interview so he looks rlly bad. The chief tells him he doesn’t need to walk Daisy home from school anymore, making it very clear he no longer trusts him…

Present-
Sydney & Tom have been on abt 6 dates by now, she catches him in some lies- he lied abt his last name & the hospital he works at. When she calls him out abt it he plays it off, then they make their relationship official lol.
Lady is completely blind to red flags.

2 months go by & everything is perfect until it’s time to get a little more serious. Tom refuses to meet any of her friends, seems to get offended when she asks to meet his mom, says 2 months is farr to early for such serious stuff.
Shit gets rlly sus when she sends him a link to something & notices his phone doesn’t go off, he’s rlly weird abt it too, keeps telling her to drop it & to send it later. He finally admits that this is his work phone & he leaves his personal phone at home. She thinks it’s weird but brushes it under the rug.
She knows that the doctor Bonnie dated was using a burner phone to talk to her, that’s why police couldn’t track him down. Is she choosing to be blind out of desperation cause it’s right in front of her face!

Past-
Police find Alison’s body in the river, she was mutilated & tortured- just like Bonnie…Slug also suggested dumping Toms dad in the river before they decided to bury him, making it even more obvious it was Slug…
Toms over here wondering what did he unleash- uuuuuuhhhhh sir? Y’all are both murders

Present-
Sydney has a friend, Gretchen. They used to be a trio before Bonnie passed away. She’s dating the super, Randy, recently moved into Sydney’s building w him.
While Sydney is over Gretchen’s, Gretchen mentions that she was at her art gallery the entire night before…She told police that she was w Randy that night…
When Sydney calls her out abt it, she says she lied cause Randy has a track record- stalking accusations & assault charges! They figured it would be better if he had an alibi for that night considering he had keys to her apartment…Gretchen begs Sydney not to snitch & she stupidly agrees

Past-
When Tom’s mom, Luann, gets home from her trip she keeps asking abt the dad, asks where her rug is, is very sussed out cause the dad hasn’t been to work or the bar in days, his car & keys are all home too…
The police chief shows up at Tom’s house to question him, tells them that other students told him abt Tom & Brandi. Tom’s mom starts lying for him too, says he was w his dad the night Brandi went missing- even tho she knows that the dads missing too!
Chief notices a bloodstain on the couch, Tom thought he scrubbed everything away but he missed a spot…Luann covers for him again, says they were painting…kicks the cop out & tell him to get a warrant when he asks to take a sample of it!
Then she tells Tom to go to his room while she scrubs the couch downstairs…she knows…

Present- Randy comes by Sydney’s apartment w an engagement ring!! Wants her opinion, is going to purpose to Gretchen, he’s so happy & excited. Sydney does not like him for Gretchen but doesn’t wanna ruin her friends happiness, decides she’ll never snitch on Randy for Gretchen’s sake.

Past-
Daisy’s dad makes her cut Tom off. He misses her too much & goes over to her house, throws pebbles at her window till she comes down. She says she can’t see him anymore cause her dad thinks him & Slug are the killers. Also said that Alison called her the night he killed his dad, told her she saw them shoving something in the trunk & Tom had blood on him..
Tom convinces Daisy he’s innocent, she agrees to sneak out that night to talk more. As much as he cares abt her he still wants to kill her, doesn’t trust himself alone at night w her…
When he leaves he sees Slug spying on him…they walk off together, Tom tells him to stay away from Daisy, that he’ll handle it…Slug says that she’s a problem & he’s not going to jail over this…

Present-
Sydney finally realizes Tom was Bonnie’s secret guy when she finds a scrunchie in his apartment- Bonnie wore scrunchies almost everyday.
Then she calls his phone while he’s in the shower, finds his burner phone. She steals a water bottle he used, wants to give it to Jake to see if he can get fingerprints from it & then makes an excuse to get outta there fast.
Back home she invites Jake over, tells him everything, gives him the water bottle to test. He tells her she needs to speak up more when she’s in danger! Says he’ll have a police car watch her house while he tests the prints. He also knows Tom, they work together cause he’s the medical examiner.


Present- the fingerprints come back as a match, Jake brings Tom in for questioning- he has a solid alibi, was working at the hospital the night of Bonnie’s murder, had witnesses who saw him. He justifies his fingerprints being in the victims houses bc he was dating a lot of people at the time- just a “coincidence”.
Jake even believes he’s innocent! Sydney is still suss but goes to yoga to distract herself, comes home to Tom waiting on her step.

Past-
Tom knows Slug heard his convo w Daisy, knows when & where they’re meeting at. Instead of getting there early, he decides to check her house to make sure she’s not still home before going to where they agreed to meet. He makes it there a few mins late, finds then behind the building…

Present- Tom & Sydney argue, he’s upset she thinks he’s a killer, she’s upset he’s been such a lair during the relationship. He says the burner phone & all his lies are cause he has commitment issues 😂😂😂
Randy & Gretchen run into them outside the apartment complex, Gretchen is so happy to finally meet Tom- who freezes as soon as he sees them.
He tries talking to Sydney privately but she’s done w him, tells him to go away. Randy steps in when Tom insists.
After they go inside, Randy & Gretchen invite her over, Tom texts her that she’s in danger- she blocks him cause she’s tired of his “over dramatic bullshit” AHHH😂😂

Inside Randy proposes to Gretchen after dinner lol awkwardly right in front of Sydney for some reason.
She uses the bathroom, toilet is broken so she goes in the tank to flush it, finds a plastic bag w dozens of locks of hair tied in different color ribbons. Randy’s the killer.

Gretchen & Randy insist she stay for cake after she gets out of the bathroom, she’s trying to get outta there. Tom starts banging on the door, somehow got into the building. He’s screaming “Daisy leave her alone”
Daisy??? Huh?

Past-
Okaaaay plot twist- Daisy is the killer!! She’s just as crazy as Tom, if not crazier…She killed Brandi cause she saw Tom kissing her, was pissed someone was kissing her mannn so she killed her!
She killed her best friend Allison cause she was gonna snitch on Tom for killing his dad, she was protecting her mannn again lol
Now she lured Slug out, she texted him to meet up so they could talk, he texted Tom that he was coming that night so they could talk to her together, convince her to keep their secret but Daisy shot him when he showed up! He even thought Tom killed Alison cause he didn’t do it!
Her plan is to call her dad, tell him Randy tried stabbing her when she was meeting up w Tom, wants to pin Alison & Brandi’s murder on him. Tells Tom he can go along w her plan or she can just tell her dad Tom was helping Slug.
Tom agrees to keep her secret to save his own ass & cause he loves her but dumps her, doesn’t wanna be w her after seeing how crazy she is, admits he will always love her tho.

Present-
Randy is passed out of the couch, Sydney is starting to feel woozy- Daisy/Gretchen drugged them.
We find out Daisy stalks to shittt outta Tom, followed him here, befriended Bonnie cause she was dating him…used Randy to get closer to her cause he worked in her building! That’s why Tom uses the burner phone- cause Daisy goes after all the girls he dates, he doesn’t want the police tracing anything back to him…Daisys crazy ass tell him not to worry- that she always makes sure to kill the women on a night he’s busy- so he has an alibi!!! Girllllll

Daisy planted the locks of hair in Randy’s toilet tank cause she was going to pin all the murders on him, planned on killing Sydney, blaming Randy for it & saying she stabbed him in self defense trying to save syndey!

Daisy tries convincing Tom to kill Sydney w her, calls him out for liking when people bleed..says they’re just alike & are supposed to be together…

Past- Tom gets away w his dads murder, Daisy telling her dad how he saved her helped, plus Tom’s dad owed a lot of people money, police assume one of them had something to do w his disappearance.

Time jump-
Tom’s is 26 now, living in Philly, has been dating a new girl for abt 8 months, he doesn’t rlly connect, relate to or like her but she’s a good person, a normal person, so he stays w her.
He stalks daisy on social media, he’s still in love w her, still fantasizes abt a life where they ended up together but won’t allow himself to be w her cause of how dangerous she is. Daisy kills all the girls he dates….


Present-
Tom called the cops before he went into the apartment, they finally show up somtime later. Daisy begs Tom to runaway w her, says they can leave through a back exit & finally be together, that he knows he’ll never love anyone else besides her & needs to stop fighting it. Tom admits she’s right!!! Agrees to go w her if she lets Sydney live.

One month later-
Daisy & Tom have disappeared, police are still searching for them but no luck. Sydney is dating Jake again. We end the book w Sydney receiving a letter- inside there’s a lock of hair & a letter from Tom saying Kevin won’t be bothering her anymore 🤪
