I started out horrified, but tho the entitled, monied, Caucasian narrative grates even as it seeks to mock itself and be self-deprecating, I do get it. For the Sylvia Plath group, being given a great home and then being expected to stay there--or doing something harmless like a garden club, but stay away from ideas--was like death. Being divorced for trophy bride was like being shoved out on the ice to die.
