In chapters 1-3, Claudia Koonz covers the early years of the Nazi party when Hitler was not shy about his antisemetic views. Hitler then failed to gain power and shifted his public speeches to the superiority of Germans rather than his hatred of Jews. Koonz shows that three popular German professors provided a “rational” argument for antisemitism while Hitler only spoke of making Germany a powerful state.
