It’s excellent, some stories are pretty short, 20 pages or so, while others verge on novella length. Typical of Baldwin, they’re mostly about working class, African American individuals. He has such a way with words, weaving together such complex stories with such brevity and wry wit. Warning though; there’s one story in particularly that is incredibly difficult to read due to an incredibly graphic depiction of a brutal hate crime. These are the first book of short stories I’ve read from him. His novel’s Giovanni’s Room and If Beale Street Could Talk are particularly standouts for me. Same with the Beale Street film, completely slept on movie; anyway, if you do read it let me know what you think!
