Back in the day when Scrooge would be willing to pay you a living wage. I read this Italian comic where he made an offer, Donald laughed it off as a terrible hourly pay, and he said it was monthly pay. We've come far with the character.

Back in the early years, Scrooge really didn't have much consistent characterization apart from being filthy rich. In every story he shows up, he's different. In this one he's happy to buy a huge expensive machine for his grand-nephews and everything.

Ah yes, the Super Snooper. Don Rosa hated superhero comics, and by the looks of things, I can't imagine Barks's opinion was much better.
