Just read about the "unnatural love" of marnei and how the main character here isn't sure how to feel about them, so I'm not sure how to feel about the book at the moment... but I do know the author can't be homophobic, because I know what else she's written... so I'll keep on keepin' on.

Legitimately nothing has happened yet, but I still find myself inexorably drawn to the book. Great world-building, but a good example of how going too far (with these foreign names and whatnot!) can be a double-edged sword.

Sooooooo many weird fantasy names and titles have me at least 25% confused. But great world-building, even though I just read sixty pages of administrative details for a new emperor. Wish everything were more gay, but what’s new there?
