You know you've lost it when you read a NYT book review, then say to yourself, "I need to check friends reviews on GR first". Thank goodness for GR!

message 2: by Sue (new)

Sue I feel the same way, Diane. Have to double check the reviews with my GR friends (of course I have Ron Charles of the WP as a GR friend, and trust him, hee hee)

Karen So true!!!

message 4: by Caroline (new)

Caroline Its just like movie reviews - I never pay attention to the critics!

message 5: by Anna (new)

Anna M. I do that all the time!

message 6: by Jill H. (new)

Jill H. I depend on my GR friends who share my love for a particular genre, not the critics. And it also goes to prove that you don't have to give a Pulitzer Prize winning novel five stars!!

message 7: by linda (new)

linda Jill- so agree !!

message 8: by Suz (new)

Suz Agree! When I see that certain friends have read a book that I'm curious about, it's enough for me!

message 9: by Ken (new)

Ken What a difference sometimes. Two examples: Colson Whitehead's Underground Railroad and Annie Proulx's Barkskins. NY TIMES thought they were the best thing since sliced English muffins. GR readers, not so much.

message 10: by Diane (new)

Diane Barnes I'm not sure the NYT reviewers read the entire books before reviewing, but I know GR readers do, or at least explain why they didn't finish.

message 11: by Ken (new)

Ken I also think, in temperament and taste, we are often closer to the GR readers.
