A homophobic slur in the prologue for no good reason and the misogyny of specific characters jumps right off the page in these first 70 odd pages, oh good grief. Still the story seems to be more interesting than other Nora Roberts books. We'll see where it goes. But I'm definitely more interested in the murder mystery parts than the budding romance.

Don't know why Nora Roberts thought her crappy romance and barely passable murder thriller needed an abysmally handled racism plotline but hell, here we are. For every part of this book that's okay there's always two more parts that are just AGGRESSIVELY trash.

If Austin isn't dead by the time this book is over I'm going to shit in it and throw it down a well. I am so tired of him and of Tucker.

Book bleeds misogyny outside of the killer pov, or the fundie pov. Chp 11, right after graphic memory of rape from pov of the religious psycho about "claiming his rights"/forcing a woman he believes is his property, Tucker, our supposed romantic hero, says this: "Sooner or later we're going to have the hell out of each other. I'll try to leave the timing up to you." This is a rape threat. Plain & simple. Hate this.
