Cotton Mather essentially feared the unionization of minorities like native Americans, Africans, women, and did not support any type of egalitarianism. He sought himself as the defender of gods law (puritan) and all minorities as non puritans who needed to be directed (aka enslaved, submissive)

Chapter 5 review:

Cotton Mather wanted to prevent union between peasant whites and enslaved blacks, because that type of rebellion would overthrow the rich white elites. The rich elites felt threatened due to English royalists wanting to govern New England in the 1690s.

Cotton Mather enforced the idea that all pure souls are white. Africans can return to their true “white” selves.
