I’ve figured it out! Fletcher’s voice! His character speaks like he’s trying to trick people into believing he’s British

Okay so on one page you have an actual chapter dedicated to an excerpt from this author’s book within the book… and then the very next page begins a new chapter with ANOTHER excerpt from the book????

Instructed??? This is not the right word for this sentence. Where was the editor?!

A shameless lie??? What does that even mean??? It doesn’t make sense on its own and it makes even less sense contextually
