Wow. So much to digest in this section. I am so shook. And heartbroken.
Maysilee, girl…there are simply no words.😭 I already miss you.
Quite a few quotes stuck with me, as I process the past few chapters. Putting it in the comments to reference later.

Oof. So much has happened. My gosh. My heart hurts - especially for Haymitch, Wyatt, Maysilee, Lou Lou, Ampert, and Betee.
One of my favorite quotes in this section has been Plutarch saying to Haymitch, “You should know that, despite appearances, a desire for freedom is not limited to the districts.”

President Snow is the absolute WORST. And Suzanne wasted no time reminding us of that in SOTR. To quote Maysilee, “a special kind of vicious.”
Love seeing more of the Plutarch WE KNOW from the OG trilogy. Loved the “I think he believes you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar” remark about Plutarch from Haymitch. Plutarch deserves a best acting Oscar for his ability to play a double agent. #IYKYK

“I like to think it was mutually beneficial,” says Plutarch. “And the audience is none the wiser. I saw to that.” - Plutarch on manipulating footage of the reaping.
YOOOOOO. Suzanne is NOT holding back. She is out here emphasizing just how foolish and easily manipulated humans can be. 👀
I have so many thoughts on Plutarch right now. I’m trying to understand how he becomes who we see in the OG trilogy.

“The moment our hearts shattered? It belongs to us.” - HAYMITCH “They will not use our tears for their entertainment” ABERNATHY 😭

Quote 1 - “I know, but…what I’m thinking…you and me…You remember what Ampert said when you made his token?” There’s a long pause before she says, “Sure. I’ll be your sister.” Our hands reach out at the same time, clasp, and then release. “Night, Sis.” I roll over and let sleep take me. - PG 274 😭

“She used to say, if I was afraid, ‘it’s okay, Maysilee, nothing they can take from you was ever worth keeping.’”PG 301 BRUH - what. I HAVE QUESTIONS. 👀The callback to Lucy Gray? Genius, Suzanne.
Quote 3 - “I shake off my tarp to repurpose it as a blanket and have almost dozed off again when I hear Wellie begin to cry. I reach to console her, but she’s fast asleep. The weeping comes from far below at the base of the tree. Silka? Who else could it be? She isn’t trying to hunt us, just huddled against the trunk. I didn’t peg her for a crier. Of course, I’ve still probably got tear stains on my cheeks from Maysilee’s passing. I’m sure Silka has plenty to cry about, too. Even if she’s the clear front runner in the Games, we’ve all of us got enough dead kids to mourn for a lifetime. I become intensely aware of the three of us, huddled around this tree, the last trio of human heartbeats in the arena. Sad, desperate, but also a rare moment of district unity in the Games. You know what would make it even better? I drop a handful of chocolate balls into the night. A startled sound. The sobs soften to sniffles. A candy wrapper crackles. Quiet. Not a bad poster, all in all.” PG 314 - this passage genuinely made me weep. 😭 Suzanne’s reminder that these are just kids and human beings (with more similarities than differences) being used as pawns for the Capitol’s entertainment. Haymitch’s compassion. He knows Silka will never return the favor, yet for this one moment, he chose to be different than what she’d be and show the Capitol he is not just another piece in their games.
Quote 4 - “I am completely in Snow’s power and his to manipulate. His puppet. His pawn. His plaything. It is his poster I am painting. His propaganda. I am trapped into doing his bidding in the Hunger Games, the best propaganda the Capitol has.” PG 322 - Oh, Haymitch. 😭 The despair. The sadness. The continued realization of Snow’s cruelty knowing no bounds. Dang. Hit me like a ton of bricks.
