The FMC is too forward and full of indiscretion. She shares intimate details about her relationship with her mother, as if the man she's dancing should care. I would find it off-putting.

The FMC sounds whiny, complaining about not being able to please her mother.

Listening to an audio recording read by Lily English; within the first 15 minutes I was not pleased with the narrator -- she does not include enough time to indicate when a transition between character perspectives has occurred. It is also very difficult to understand which character is speaking since all of her character voices sound the same, including the narrators parts.
