I wasn’t expecting this book to make me laugh, but it did. I love ALL of the characters so much. *Spoilers* Especially Theron. I was really hoping that he was being set up to be chill and a good person- and then he was an it was great. I love when the “great king” character is just a decent person. Also, is it bad weird that I’m rooting for a polycule?

Truly all of the characters had moments to shine. And I absolutely loved the ending. I appreciate that I don’t have to read the rest of the series for a resolution but I can return to the world someday if I want to. Annice was brave and kind and determined and also stubborn and sassy and sometimes short sighted. She was human. All the characters were so human. Definitely one of my new favorite books. 9/10

I forgot that Tanya Huff general writes third person omniscience and how much I loved it. There’s always a general focus on one character but they all get their time to shine. I completely forgot the plot synopsis on the back lol. Each revelation has been a shock like I didn’t know where this would be going the whole time.

Tanya Huff you’ve done it again. I already adore the main character- Annice- and you’ve plopped me down in the middle of an entirely new world that already feels like a pair of comfortable shoes.
