There is a lot to love about this book, but unlike many others, I'm *NOT* enamored with the romance. The hero asks a lot of the heroine without giving too much in return.. and makes her vow not to leave him, ever. (Breaking a vow constitutes a really painful punishment) And well, the side characters outshine the hero in terms of personality. So yeah.
