It's one of those books where no-one speaks or acts like real humans. The adults or the children. I have no doubt freaks and weirdos will always find one another and that some kids are right bastards but I do feel a lot of times words/actions on show here would in reality have been met with 'what the fuck?' rather than the dreamy complacency or blatant ignorance. That won't move the story along though.
