So it's a manic-pixie-dream-girl adventure thing... but with the protagonist being the best friend rather than the love interest.

I'm okay with the 'pushing your shy friend out of their comfort zone' thing, but the 'shy friend's weird idolisation of and dependence on Sloane - her manic-pixie best friend - is really awful.

Sloane's disappearance is probably the best thing that could've ever happened for her.
