Oh I hate reading books where the FMC is a pick-me. Because how do you have a boyfriend but you’re cuddled up with your male best friend worried his hypothetical gf might ‘ruin’ things?
If anything she’s using Brooks as a placeholder- she needs him to fulfill the emotional needs her boyfriend isn’t fulfilling. (Because said boyfriend sucks).
