I started this book once before, but life intervened, and I put it down. My rereading attempt is so far so good, and I am enjoying the narrative landscape much better this time, so I’ll take it as a positive sign to come.

While I don’t like the way Van Veen dances around the details, the narrative did just give some Usher/Flowers in the Attic vibes that at least kicked up the suspense a few notches from the zero it’s been sitting at for the greater part of 200 pages.
