After a rocky start, this is turning out to be pretty good. It doesn't hold a candle to Williamson's later writing, like The Outsider, but it's been engaging enough to keep me reading for much of the day. I think this is the first historical romance I've read that was set in the Elizabethan era, so that's been interesting.

Drawback to historical romances set in the Elizabethan period: the codpiece. There is nothing sexy about the word "codpiece," and it's a bit of a mood-killer to have to think about one while reading a sex scene.
I feel the same way about the words "bloomers," "drawers," and "combination," often found in Victorian-era HRs. And if the men are wearing long johns or union suits? Forget about it.
