Hey I thought this was a goofy little social satire, why is ch. 35 one of the most poignant things I’ve read in months.

Hey I fear it might just have been worth reading all these pages just to hear Dobbins say “No, you are not worthy of the love which I have devoted to you”

I have been so patient I have been so open minded I have defended this book from all of the haters but this?? ANOTHER 4-page family backstory, spanning centuries, LITTERED with footnotes because it’s full of shorthand and in-jokes that make it actually incomprehensible to anyone who isn’t fluent in the political and social vernacular of the period, and for WHAT? A charter who MAY reappear once? I’m done.
