How do you write a book about Dionysus while still having Semele alive? Like it's bad enough this book keeps talking about knights in BRONZE AGE GREECE, but a core tenant of the Dionysus myth--and why he's considered a god and not a demigod--is that fact that Semele bursts into flames upon seeing a fully divine Zeus, leaving Zeus to scoop up little fetus Dionysus and put him in his thigh until the full gestation.
