What happened to yearning? PLS! PLEASE? In romance books, in film, in tv. A man absolutely heartbroken, shaking, celibate, pining, WISHING, wanting, crying over his mistakes. YEARNING from afar. Building up to a simple touch, a long glance. Even shows don’t do this anymore and wonder WHY half the girlies have binned American tv shows, hate manwhores and watch kdramas/turkish dramas.

I've actually found this more in the m/m romances I've been reading lately. Much less so for the typical m/f romances these days.

i honest to god think it has to do with people shorter attention spans today and so everything is just sped up. bring back yearning 2025!!!
@Disir, I have also noticed this in the few MxM books I have read and the focus revolves around the struggle of two characters who can't be together, so there’s a real build-up. But, I need it in straight romance. :( recycling repeats over here!
@Harm Streaming/Short form media has absolutely changed the way we consume media. The concept of waiting weekly for an 45 minute episode drop, 24 episode season is unheard of 😭 The thing is, yearning is so much easier to implement in the world building of books. Readers still appreciate the anticipation of a new release. I feel like it’s why authors like Mariana Zapata thrive because there is a demand for their work.
