So far - so good; personally, I was more interested in the historical aspect of the development of doctrines, which the book does well, but it's filled with a large amount of information pertaining to different Patristic Fathers across the 2nd - 4th centuries; it can be a bit of a mish mash but it's not difficult to comprehend, perhaps a bit dry?

It was interesting to read about the early Church developments behind sacraments like baptism, the Eucharist, and confession; the part on Arianism and the Nicene theology was interesting as well, but quite thorough and dry.
I think, so far, this book is great if you're interested in how the gears, even the tiniest ones, of early Christianity worked; if you're more interested in a general overview, this book isn't it.

Irenaeus and Origen are particularly interesting, especially Origen with how he began the idea of 'Theosis'; as well as how intriguing the differences were present between the West and the East, or 'legalism' and 'mysticism.'
