It's been a (very enjoyable and educational) slog, but I'm now reaching history which is decidedly closer to explaining today's world. Book Six: The Great Acceleration, Chapter I: Long-Term Change. Roberts has discussed Malthus' theory, and the agricultural revolution that started in England and spread throughout Northwest Europe and elsewhere.
