How does one express like… when the writing style doesn’t quite match what you’re reading??
One MC is very modern and one is an orc, who just kinda reads like a normal dude but add some made up words/places/animal names because ✨fantasy✨ I’ve been getting this a lot with books set in non-human worlds and I don’t know how to describe it? Like it’s not period accurate??? But it’s not a period of time 🤣

I hear that! The characters and dialogue need to fit the world, whether a time and place that ever existed or not. Alas, it is not a new problem, as one has only to read some of the “golden age of science fiction” to read of 1950’s American men smoking their pipes in a distant future, etc.

The orc was feeling so contemporary but with the cover of some made up fantasy words, and it wasn’t working for me ahahah.
