I wonder now how many women allow abusive relationships to continue in the vain hope that things will get better, blaming some external factor like debt rather than laying the blame where it should be laid, at the feet of their violent men.

The Asian men were nearly always the most chauvinistic and unpleasant clients. I suppose they automatically looked down on anyone who did this kind of work.

Because they were boys, he couldn’t accept that any of this was my brothers’ own fault. Most of the time he blamed Mum for not bringing them up properly, although all through their marriage she had only ever done what he told her.

Maybe deep down he believed he was giving us certain morals and rules to live by, fulfilling his duty as a father, but just didn’t know how to express himself properly, always choosing to shout and hit rather than sit down and talk.
