The defending Wimbledon mixed doubles champions are “weak to cross-court shots?” AKA the bread-and-butter strategy of doubles? The highest-percentage shot possible due to the lower net and increased court length? Are they just slamming every ball down the line? What is happening? Who edited this tennis?

This is the Wimbledon mixed doubles final and yet the writing isn’t any more specific than “between points, we were forced to strategize.” Like, I sure hope so?!

the repeated usage of the word “game” where “match” should be is incredibly irksome. and the worst part is that the author uses the correct term SOME of the time!

“i think i went too hard on her” is a sentence that anyone who has just won the first round at wimbledon would NEVER say

“we’ve also done a lot of work on my serve, adapting my playing style to be more strategic” you mean before this point you, an 8-time grand slam champion, were just slapping the shit out of the ball not aiming anywhere in particular???

More errors:
“We all defended for a few volleys” - you’re pros playing doubles. Someone needs to be on offense. Also misuse of “volleys”. “Shots” is more accurate.
“That move is simple, easy to correct in training” - No one, especially not a 8x Grand Slam champion, refers to a tennis skill as a “move”.
“I need to practise this backhand swing” Stilted. Just say “My backhand sucks ass”.

“mixed double category” doubles is plural. there’s so little tennis in this book that any error breaks my immersion. also, stop smashing your racquets.

the “metallic arch” of the racquet is not going to bend if you smash it on the ground AND if it truly is metallic then this is a period piece because aluminum racquets were last century
