I don't fully understand how there are two versions of Chauveau in 1945, but this is fiction about time travelling UFOs, so I will stop trying to figure out the logic.

As hell continues to fester on Earth, I am burying my face in a book. Plot-driven and filled with French history and social commentary, the characters are a touch vague and stereotypical.

This book makes me want to rewatch Midnight in Paris!
