I'm really bothered by Amari's weakness. How does one grow up with monsters, train like a monster, get hurt by monsters, steals from the monsters, and be too afraid to defend their own life?

Also 'sky mother' really fucking irks me. It reminds me of people saying Sky Daddy on the internet in reference to God (or your deity of choice) in a funny or mocking way.

If I could skip all the Inan narratives, I would. His voice is small but irksome. In the sense that he's just self-flaggelating. Beating himself up for the life he was given. For the choices HE made that led him to this place. For the fear he feels and doesn't confront. Like, I get it but we need to see something else from his character. Soon.

Inan is not a likable character. He is very one-dimensional, imo. Havent seen anything from him, but his disdain for himself and his inner conflict about maji and the girl with a 'sea-salt soul'. Hopefully he finds a personality

I'm not crazy about the pacing of this story.

Alas, we press on.
