But everybody knows life isn’t worth living

Maman used to say that you can always find something to be happy about

When I was first imprisoned, the hardest thing was that my thoughts were still those of a free men

It’s just that I don’t have much to say so I keep quiet

I said that people never change their lives, that in any case one life was a good as another and that I wasn’t dissatisfied with mine here at all

They look as if they belong to the same species, and yet they hate each other

It occurred to me that anyway one more Sunday was over, that maman was buried now, that I was going back to work, and that really, nothing had changed
