No, Wilson's at it again!

"It is a naïve rendering of 'turn the other cheek' to think that Christians are instructed to forgive all trespasses." – I mean they very literally are...

"If they did, then there would be no protection against self-seeking behaviours within groups." — there's a big difference between forgiving a person and punishing a behaviour (+ religions should favour reconciliation over punishment)

Andoni Sergiou I reckon that Wilson miscommunicated Ara Norenzayan's work on this. Rather, it is the expectation that God will see to justice that acts like a surveillance and punishment system to deter free-riders. This is very hard to achieve in large groups with actual punishment, because who polices the police? Much better to have all omniscient deity/ties who polices all
