Frederick is a really interesting character, one who stood up against the Nazi dogma. His strength in character was tested by the bullying he went through. It kind of gives a dystopian view of the people who dare to stand up against injustices.

'Frederick's dreaminess, his otherness -- it's on him like a scent, and everyone can smell it.'

'This, she realises, is the basis of his fear, all fear. That a light you are powerless to stop will turn on you and usher a bullet to its mark.'

"The brain is locked in total darkness, of course,children, says the voice. It floats in a clear liquid inside the skull, never in the light. And yet the world it constructs in the mind is full of light. It brims with color and movement. So how, children, does the brain, which lives without a spark of light, build for us a world full of light?"

The boy with the, almost, white hair and the girl with the 'LeBlanc' surname. A coincidence?
