Felt redundant on some parts, but I have been helped in my daily application of seeking to have a humble, worshipful heart. I also think awareness of my own sin and heart posture has been exposed more. I’ve noticed subtle ways I am focusing more on my own agenda with selfishness! Praise the Lord, His mercy is more! I would hear myself say something and be able to apply a situation from this book!

When what I value most at the core of my being is my relationship with God & others.my words will reflect that. & will be most deeply felt when others are not at their best. Anyone can say “I like you” when you’re likable. But when you’renot likable, and someonestill speaks gently, courageously,to woo you & bring you back..You see their heart..giving you a taste of what you can expect from them in the future

“… someone who is nurturing, caring, gentle concerned, engaging, trustworthy, truthful, and wise they’re picking that up because you’re speaking out of a set of values that cares for them. You’ve communicated that you are more interested in their well-being than your own comfort. And willing to step up and speak in ways that offer them the opportunity to mature into all that God ever intended them to be.”

“…you’ve communicated you expect some form of hassle-free living from them with as few interruptions as possible, while they give you the love and respect you feel entitled to by virtue of how much you do for them...,you probably shouldn’t be too surprised if they decide they don’t want a whole lot to do with you as they get older and have more relational opportunities from which to choose.”

Easy to read before bed, pointed to keep me thinking about it the following day.
“What do your kids hear from you? If they regularly experience you as harsh, overbearing, joyless, gloomy, never satisfied, needy it’s because you’ve told them that you cherish something deep inside – only it’s not them. It’s something else, and their role life is to make sure you have that other thing.“
