I met the author of this book as he poured our samples at Wagner Vineyard along the eastern shore of Lake Seneca (Finger Lakes, NY). I love how you can 'hear' his voice in this book: "God created grapes on Day Three. He created blackbirds on Day Four. Those blackbirds have been eating grapes ever since." The blackbirds favored the earliest ripening grapes. "Magdeleine" grape ripens on July 22 (feast day). Merlot!
