one question I’ve always had is whether Bertha Mason was not white/not fully white but upon this reread my conclusion is that she couldn’t have been mixed race/not white. Too much is said of her privilege and relative status that I don’t think she would have had if she weren’t white?

if Jane had any other reaction than what she has to Rochester’s secret, this book would have been unbearable.
