Very excited to hear if you enjoy this, it’s one of my favourites.

As you know, I don’t read this genre but I was at a loose end last week and so challenged Simon to find me a fantasy book that I might like. He recommended this and I am about 2 thirds through. It’s on course for a 4 or maybe even a 5 rating from me. I am enjoying it very much but I don’t think I want to read another for a while. I think he found me the longest, heaviest book he possibly could so that he can catch up with my book total for this year. It is so heavy I risk it knocking me out when I read in bed! Anyway, I would describe this book as Dickens with a bit of magic. Beautifully written.

Oh, Dickens with magic is a fantastic description. I've seen a few conversations that Susanna Clarke has given via the British Library, and her imagination is astounding.
