“Murder on the Links” didn’t interest me as much as I hoped it would. It felt overly complicated and clumsy in some aspects. Poirot himself says that complexity doesn’t necessarily equate to cleverness when he first sees the crime scene. Dame Christie remains the undisputed “queen of crime” but I’m still searching for a mystery as phenomenal as “The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.”

A Mysterious Affair at Styles wasn’t one of my favorite Poirot mysteries, but it was fun to see Hercule Poirot introduced to the literary world for the very first time. Having read some of Agatha Christie’s later works, her debut feels weak by comparison, especially since there were so many aspects of the case that were only revealed in retrospect. A nice change of pace after Les Mis nevertheless.

I trust this quaint, dandified little man to solve a murder!
