I’m committed to finishing this as an audiobook, but man was Taye Diggs the wrong pick for narrator. His monotonous delivery exacerbates Patterson’s weak dialogue and clipped sentence structure.

I honestly can’t tell if I think this book is legitimately poorly written or if it’s just bad narration. I’ll have to be sure to just read the next book to be sure.

I haven’t read this book since middle school or high school - my dad was a fan of the series. It’s over 30 years old now but it’d be labeled “woke” nowadays.

I definitely had the order of the books mixed up because I forgot Gary Soneji came up in the debut rather than the sequel. It has me excited because I remember the Kiss the Girls story (thanks Morgan Freeman) but I don’t remember this book.
