Up until this point in the novel the story has been fairly tame, sometimes broaching subjects involving race from the perspective of Tom, whose main ambition is keeping himself and his father afloat in a world that constantly degrades their existence. This is done very well and manages to maintain a lovecraftian eeriness throughout.

Halle and Sam,Reflecting upon my words, I do think that perhaps I may have misinterpreted Detective Malone in “The Horror at Red Hook”. With the way Lovecraft describes those he obviously dislikes in the original work, I may have conflated his own distaste of foreigners with Malone’s character. It’s easy to think that detective Malone is operating purely on prejudice in Lovecraft’s work, but I’m no longer certain. More to follow!
