God I fucking hate this book and I hate Victor Hugo and his smug condescending sexist ass shallow bullshit. I usually love old dead white dudes like Dickens and Twain but I cannot STAND how smugly Hugo tells the reader how smart and cool he is for thinking women are weak and dumb and prison magically transforms you into a bad person. Ugh is insufficient
